To the Editor:
In your article “Talks With Allies Enter Final Phase” you quote Mr. Bush as saying, “History has called the United States into action and we will not let history down.” When I look back on the history of the United States I remember a nation that values freedom, democracy and civil rights. I also remember a nation that has never been the instigator of a war. The United States has every right to defend itself and perhaps our allies. However, waging war based on innuendo, machismo values and revenge have never been part of our history. Perhaps Mr. Bush needs a history lesson.

To the Editor:
Last night's debate offered a telling statement on Sarah Palin's lack of readiness to serve. When she stated "I've only been at this for five weeks" as a defense for not knowing a substantial answer to a question, she solidified her lack of readiness to serve as Vice President. Nothing she could have said would have painted a more vivid picture as that one statement. I can only hope that voters will remember that statement when they enter the voting booth.

Is there something wrong with this picture? The Albuquerque Public School District now has four Superintendents, including a Superintendent for Finance, and they hire an outside expert to help them figure out how to pay the districts bills on time? I do believe it’s time to fire these four jokers and go back to one Superintendent.

COMMENTARIES
As of today, the No Child Left Behind Act continues to wreck havoc on the public schools of this nation. This unfunded mandate by the Bush Administration has brought critical financial hardships to many districts. While there are those in the White House who continue to praise the Act, most Americans realize that there must be either a major overhaul of No Child Left Behind or drop it all together. The mandate has done nothing to improve our nation’s education system or to better educate our nation’s children.
